( Ovichnews Nigeria ) - Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, continues to thrive and set new records as filmmakers produced an astonishing 274 films in the first three months of 2024.
This remarkable feat highlights the creative prowess and productivity of the industry's talented professionals. According to the NFVCB director, the initial quarter report from the Department of Film Censorship and Classification revealed a total of approved films from various genres. This report will be forwarded to the appropriate government agency to be included in the calculation of the nation's first quarter Gross Domestic Product in 2024. The report revealed that a majority of the films produced during the reviewed period were in English Language. Out of the 250 verified and approved films, the majority were in English, with the remaining being in Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and Hindi. Furthermore, the report indicated that films classified as '18' for mature audiences made up more than 50% of the total productions. The remaining films were categorized as '15', '12', requiring parental guidance, and 'General viewing'. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the NFVCB is a government organization in charge of overseeing the Nigerian film and video sector. As mandated by law, the board is responsible for rating all films and videos, whether they are imported or made domestically. Additionally, the board is responsible for registering all film and video outlets throughout the nation and maintaining a record of these outlets, among other duties.
